Description

The Linseis DTA uses a dynamic measuring principle. It can measure endothermal and exothermal heat flows between the sample and the reference. These heat flows are result of physical or chemical changes of the samples. Very often a DTA is used for purity measurements of mixtures of metals. This is due to the fact that the melting point changes in dependence to differing amounts of impurities.

Application example DTA

Temperature of potassium sulfat (K2SO4) Potassium sulfat (K2SO4) is changing it''s crystal structure from an orthorhombic to a hexagonal system at 582°C. The energy that is needed for this restructuring can be determined with the HDSC method quantitatively (high temperature differential scanning calorimetry).

Measurements on cast powder for steel casts

Cast powder for steel casts
A cast powder is used in steel manufacturing as a lubricant during the steel casting process. The cast powder melts at 1000°C and form a lubrication film. With this lubrication film steel can be cast in very small and delicate forms. The initial heating peaks illustrate the combustion and decomposition of the carbon. During the cooling cycle, we can see the solidification peaks at approx.1100°C.
